FAQ

Synthetic printing papers are one of the fastest growing substrates in the printing industry since they provide the properties and benefits of both plastics and paper. The following Questions & Answers have been prepared by Granwell Products to inform and educate and represent typical questions asked. Additional technical and product information and support is also available.

What Is Polylith Synthetic Paper?
It's a polymer based product available in the broadest range of gauges, finishes, tear-resistant and no-tear products available from a single supplier. It prints like paper but has the properties of plastic.

How does it print?
Polylith products can be printed by flexography, offset, gravure, letterpress, screen and thermal transfer methods. When coated it can be printed by ink jet, laser & direct thermal processes.

Are Special Inks Needed?
Generally, standard paper inks work well due to the matte finish and print receptive coatings. Grades with gloss finishes may require special higher solids inks which are readily available from all Ink suppliers.

Are Special Finishing Techniques Necessary?
No, it can be processed by perforating, folding, scoring, sewing, punching, hot stamping and embossing.

Can It Be Used for Food Contact?
Yes, Polylith conforms with FDA and CONEG.

Can it be Used for Outdoor Applications?
Yes, we have UV resistant Polylith grades suitable for outdoor applications.

How Does Pricing Compare with Other Brands?
We have grades that span the properties of all the leading brands. While each of our grade categories have different pricing, Polylith is the value leader in the industry.

Can I get Sheets and Rolls?
Yes, we have slitting and sheeting capabilities.

Can I Coat In-Line?
Polylith top-coated synthetic papers can be readily aqueous coated in-line.  However, for non top-coated grades as with all non-absorptive substrates, aqueous in-line coating is not recommended unless press is properly set-up for effective ink drying.

Is Polylith Environmentally Safe?
Yes, It is one of the most environmentally viable synthetic papers available today.
